Emergency Dentistry

One thing you can count on when you have a dental emergency is that it will never happen at a time that is convenient! It also may feel frightening and overwhelming, but the first thing to remember is not to panic.

Your reliable team at Modern Day Smiles is here to help you through any emergency you may be experiencing. We will make every effort to see you as soon as possible if you’re experiencing dental pain or an emergency, so don’t ever hesitate to call us.

Lost or Broken Teeth

If you’ve broken your tooth or it’s become dislodged, bring the tooth or pieces of your tooth to our office as quickly as possible. Handle a tooth that’s been dislodged by the crown of the tooth; never touch the root. Try to place it back in your mouth, if possible, and get to our office immediately as it could be saved.

Soft Tissue Injuries

For injuries to your gums, cheeks, or lips, do your best to stop the bleeding with a cold compress. If available, warm salt-water rinses are often helpful. Contact our office for further instruction once you’ve contained the bleeding.

Dental Pain or Toothaches

If your tooth becomes sensitive to hot or cold foods and beverages, this may be the indicator of a dental infection. It’s important to note that this pain will not go away on its own, so don’t delay in contacting our office. In fact, dental infections will only get worse, causing more severe pain and putting you at risk for the infection to travel to other critical areas of your body.

Contacting our office if you’re experiencing dental pain or a toothache can mean the difference between saving and losing your tooth. If we’re able to treat you right away, root canal therapy can likely prevent an extraction.

We know that going to the dentist is terrifying for some people, especially when they’re experiencing a dental emergency.

Dr. Patel and Dr. Spinuso offer nitrous oxide sedation to help patients relax and take the edge off during dental procedures. Nitrous, or laughing gas, is a breathable gas administered through a mask during your procedure. It has a calming effect so you’ll feel comfortable, relaxed, and at ease during your treatment. Nitrous oxide is available to all our patients, whether or not they’re experiencing an emergency.

Dr. Patel and Dr. Spinuso are your trusted providers at Modern Day Smiles and we offer two convenient locations that serve both the St. Petersburg and Tampa, FL communities. Remember, if you or a loved one is experiencing a dental emergency, remain calm and contact our office for immediate care.
