  • Is all treatment completed at this office?

We always strive to take care of all your needs at either our Tampa or St. Petersburg location. Dr. Remal Patel and Dr. Alex Spinuso are highly skilled dentists who provide a wide range of services for our patients. In the few rare cases that we do refer out, we work with only the most highly respected specialists in the area.

  • Do procedures such as extractions and root canals hurt?

Modern dentistry has made many advances, and because we use very effective anesthetics, you typically won’t feel pain during any procedure. The need for root canal therapy is generally caused by dental infection, which is actually the cause of your pain. Root canal therapy will relieve your pain and stop the infection from spreading.

With extractions, most patients report feeling pressure rather than pain during their procedure. You will be prescribed pain medication for any post-surgery discomfort you may experience.

  • Do you see children?

Yes, we welcome children to Modern Day Smiles! Our doctors recommend that they have their first dental appointment around the age of three years old unless parents have any other concerns early on. We know how important those first visits are, and this is why we strive to keep your child’s visits to our office pleasant and upbeat.

We also offer advanced services for children such as dental sealants, which are designed to protect small teeth from tooth decay and cavities. Fluoride treatments are another way to build and strengthen your child’s teeth.

  • How often should I visit the dentist?

For patients who are in good oral health, we recommend that you visit Dr. Remal Patel or Dr. Alex Spinuso twice per year or every six months. We’ll do a thorough examination, cleaning, and screening for concerns such as gum disease, oral cancer, and tooth decay. We’ll also take digital x-rays at least once per year to help us monitor your oral health and get an idea of what’s happening internally in your mouth.

If you struggle with periodontal (gum) disease, we recommend three visits per year or every four months, so we can help you maintain your oral health. We offer deep cleanings that reach below the gum line to remove plaque and tartar build-up and help patients with gum disease effectively manage their condition.
